Elementary Class Primary Secondary Entrance Exams
Throughout Nigeria, a set of tests are administered at various points in the elementary and secondary school grades.
Some entrance exams entail attempting to complete a test that qualifies one to be admitted into a different school, whilst others are written as external exams under large organizations of education in Nigeria.
BECE, NECO (Basic 9) GCE/WASSCE/NECO UTME
The BASIC EDUCATION CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION (BECE) is given to applicants in their third year of junior secondary school in order to help them transition from the ninth year of the basic education class to the senior secondary.
At the BECE level, there are 18 subjects that are administered. It is envisaged that a candidate will sit for a maximum of eleven topics. If a candidate receives passes in six subjects—including English and mathematics—they are considered to have passed the BECE.
There are two types of the General Certificate Examination, or GCE as it is often known, depending on the organizations who administer it. For school-based private applicants, the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is held in November and December. The West African Examinations Council administers these.
The National Examination Council, or NECO, administers the other General Certificate Examination, which is also widely used in Nigeria. Only external candidates may take this Senior School Certificate exam. Additionally, it takes place every year in November and December.
The Joint Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB), sometimes known as the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), is a computer-based standardized test for aspiring students in Nigeria.
Its purpose is to evaluate the importance of each of these skills: problem-solving, critical thinking, and understanding of scientific principles of subjects taken.
POST UTME
For prospective students in Nigeria applying to study at universities, polytechnics, and institutes of education, the Post-UTME exam serves as a screening examination.
The student’s result on the screening test or aptitude test determines whether they will be admitted to their preferred higher institution.
